Martin Scorsese's 'The Irishman'

Martin Scorsese's 'The Irishman'

Today marks the premiere of a long, anticipated film release. That film is Martin Scorsese’s latest motion picture: ‘The Irishman’. The Hollywood-star line-up is more than enough to convince you that you need to see this movie. Stars include Robert De Niro, Al Pacino and Joe Pesci – the men who have previously played some of the most iconic infamous gangsters. Last month we took a look at Famous Men Who Love Cigars – so, you’ll know that many stars share your love for Cuban cigars. DeNiro, Pacino and Pesci are all somewhat icons in the cigar world, so we can imagine this film will be a must-see for many of you aficionados!

“I HEARD YOU PAINT HOUSES”

THE IRISHMAN – If you are familiar with the man Jimmy Hoffa (Al Pacino) then we’re sure you’ll know of the story of the Irishman. However, for those of you who are none the wiser, here’s a quick break-down. The film tells the story of a Mafia hitman called Frank ‘The Irishman’ Sheeran (Robert De Niro) and his possible link to the disappearance of Hoffa. This is one of the most notorious organised crime events of the 20th century – and the case still remains unsolved. “I heard you paint houses” is one of the first things Hoffa ever said to Sheeran. A saying for those who commit murders. From then Hoffa hired the Mafia hitman as the ‘organiser’ for his Teamster Union. The glimpses of John F Kennedy in the official premier hint that the film is going to give us an insight into the world of organised crime, corrupt unions and American politics. We’ll leave the rest for the big screen to tell!

“EACH OF THE MEN IN THIS MOVIE ARE LONG-TIME ICONS”

HOLLYWOOD STARS AND CIGARS – We’ve spotted many Hollywood stars enjoying a good old smoke from time to time. Many of which we stock on our Cuban cigar shop. Each of the men in this movie are long-time icons in the industry and are seen as inspirational to many aficionados!

ROBERT DE NIRO – The Oscar-winning actor has been the star in many Hollywood American Crime films, and now ‘The Irishman’ has been added to the list. Although he’s admitted that he’s taken a back seat with smoking – that’s not to say he didn’t love it in the past. He’s recalled that there was a point in his life whereby he loved an occasional smoke – he particularly enjoyed cigars from the brands Quai d’Orsay and one of his particular favourites was the Partagás No.4

AL PACINO – What aficionado wouldn’t want to possess the panache of Tony Montana whilst smoking a cigar? Pacino’s role in Scarface most certainly cemented his place in cigar smoking icons. A masculine and assertive figure who is seen as a huge inspiration for men worldwide!

JOE PESCI – Pesci is another man who oozes confidence and authority! Many of his characters are hot-headed mad men – including his role as Tommy Devito in ‘Goodfellas’. This character was partial to a smoke, when he wasn’t out brutalising the streets of New York!

‘The Irishman’ will be out in theatres on 1st November! Be sure to let us know what you think of the highly-anticipated movie.
