THE BRAND - Montecristo was founded in 1935 by Alonso Menendez, an ambitious and enthusiastic cigar maker who bought the Perticulares Factory and renamed it. The brand's name is a clear reference to Alexandre Dumas' novel, the Count of Monte Cristo, which was surprisingly very popular amongst the torcedores in the Montecristo factory. A few years after the brand's creation, Menendez formed a very successful partnership with Jose "Pepe" Garcia and together purchased the H. Upmann factory, moving the entire Montecristo production there. Montecristo witnessed worldwide recognition during the 70s and the 80s while the brand's sales amount to approximately 50% of Havana's yearly exports to this day.

OPEN SERIES - Montecristo presented four new sizes during 2009's Habanos Festival, all of which comprise the Open Series, the first line of Cuban Cigars Online to come from Montecristo. Its blend is made from tobacco leaves sourced from Vegas at the Vuelta Abajo zone, the best tobacco region in the world. The smallest of the series, the Montecristo Open Junior Cigar is small but mighty in flavours. Featuring a Trabucos vitola, the Open junior cigar is perfect to smoke when time is of the essence. Equally excellent in terms of aromas, the Montecristo Open Master Cigar is slightly longer than its predecessor. Open Master measures at 124 mm by a 50 ring gauge, making this just the right smoke to puff after a game of sport or a round of golf. The third to come from the Open Series is the Montecristo Open Regata Cigar that features a beautiful Forum vitola. Like its siblings, Regata is capable of producing a pleasant yet short smoking experience, ideal for both the occasional and the casual type of smoker. Last to join the Open family is the Montecristo Open Eagle Cigar. The lengthier smoke in the series, Open Eagle measures 150 mm in length by a ring gauge of 54, perfect for a quick yet pleasurable smoke.
