"THE OPENING CEREMONY TAKES PLACE AT PALAZZO VECCHIO"

Hosted in the fashion Mecca that Florence is, the Pitti festivities start tomorrow, 11th of June, and will last for four whole days, until Friday the 14th of June, when the famous event will close its curtains for another season. Some of this season's highlights include the opening ceremony, which will take place at Palazzo Vecchio, the city's town hall, A Short Novel on Men's Fashion, an exhibition dedicated to thirty years at Pitti Imagine Uomo, the Givenchy Menswear show on Wednesday, and, of course, the MSGM Pitti Special Show the day after.

"THE FAIR DATES BACK TO 1952"
HISTORY - Despite being sixty-seven years old, Pitti remains as young, contemporary and vibrant as always. In particular, Pitti Uomo dates back to February 1952, when a descendant of a noble family from Lucca, Giovanni Battista Giorgini, hosted the fashion event at his own home, Villa Torrigiani, in Florence. It was originally known as the First Italian High Fashion Show and in only one year managed to attract menswear lovers, journalists, and buyers from all over the world. Following its huge success, the location of the event moved to Florence's Grand Hotel in just a few years of its existence, while, in more recent times, the fair was hosted in what later became its historic location, the Sala Bianca in the Pitti Palace. Nonetheless, it wasn't until 1972 when Pitti focused exclusively on menswear and became what it is today.
FORTEZZA DA BASSO - Built between 1534 and 1536, Fortaza da Baso is based in the heart of Florence, Italy. Planned by Antonio da Sangallo il Giovane and commissioned by the Duke of Florence, Alessandro de' Medici, the building constitutes a Renaissance masterpiece of great aesthetic value. Since 1967, the Forteza has served as the main Congress and Exhibition Centre for Central Italy, being the ideal place for fairs like the well renowned International Handicrafts Trade Fair and, our favourite Pitti Homo.
