Choosing Cigar Gifts for Every Type of Cigar Smoker

Choosing Cigar Gifts for Every Type of Cigar Smoker

‘Tis the season to start buying gifts for friends and family (or even for yourself!). Let’s be honest, it can be hard to decide what kind of Cuban Cigars or Cigar Accessories to buy for someone. So, to make your lives easier, this guide will provide you with ‘gift’ ideas for different types of cigar smokers. So, without further ado, below are five types of cigar smokers:

H. Upmann Magnum 50 and the Trinidad Cutter & Lighter Set Edicion Limitada 2019.

THE BEGINNER

Someone has to start somewhere, right? For those who aren’t very experienced in smoking Cuban cigars, it could be very daunting to choose your first few stogies. The cigar beginner wants to spend their money wisely, but with the countless cigar brands to choose from, it can take a while before they settle with a decision. Therefore, to play the safe side, you can gift the cigar beginner with a medium-bodied cigar, just like the H. Upmann Magnum 50, something that isn't too mild nor strong, so that it doesn't overwhelm them.  Another great gift would be some cigar accessories. In our Cuban Cigar Shop, we've got some great gift sets like Trinidad Cutter and Lighter Set.

Montecristo No. 2 and Partagas Serie D No. 4.

THE OCCASIONAL SMOKER

The occasional smoker is someone who chooses to smoke on special days such as birthdays, anniversaries, promotions or weddings. They may not have an extensive collection of cigars, nor a humidor - but they do know how to enjoy a smoke when the time calls for it. For this type of smoker, they may prefer to have a cigar that is a bit more premium. Since they don’t fire up stogies often, the one time they might decide to smoke should be special. Therefore, we suggest the Montecristo No. 2 or the Partagas Serie D No. 4, as they are undoubtedly fantastic, and tastes great straight from the box.

Cohiba Talisman, Montecristo 80 Aniversario and the S.T. Dupont Matt Black Humidor.

THE COLLECTOR

Know anyone with a cigar collection that exceeds their ability to smoke them? Then they are most likely to be a ‘collector’. A collector is someone that appreciates the finer things in life; they enjoy collecting artisanal tobacco as much as they enjoy smoking them for their own leisure. You can expect them to have a few humidors at their disposal, with a combination of regular productions, limited editions and several novelty cigars here and there. So, what would make the perfect gift? We suggest a Limited Edition Cigar or a shiny new Cigar Humidor. A limited-edition cigar like the Cohiba Talisman Edicion Limitada 2017 or the Montecristo 80 Aniversario would be a fantastic addition to their existing collection, especially if it’s rare! Then for the cigar humidor, it can help provide the ‘collector’ additional space to keep their cigars, while ensuring they are kept fresh. So a humidor with an in-built hygrometer and humidifier like the S.T. Dupont Matt Black Humidor.

THE ENTHUSIAST

Cigar enthusiasts are those who have already tried a handful of Cuban cigars and are still open to trying more. Whatever the brand, whatever the price - they tend to be quite open-minded. Enthusiasts know the basic cigar terminology and are keen on improving their cigar-tasting skills. However, the enthusiast can be particularly hard to find a gift for. Why? They love to try different kinds of cigars, so they’re always searching for the ‘next best thing’. Therefore, when it comes to buying them gifts, we suggest you get a ‘selection’ of cigars, like the Seleccion Robustos LLCDH or samplers like the All-Star Cigar Sampler. With this, they get to explore and try out different brands - it may even help them to decide on a potential favourite.

Romeo y Julieta Churchills and the Montecristo No. 4.

THE AFICIONADO

Now, the cigar aficionado is someone well-versed in the world of cigars. They have tried a plethora of different brands and cigars, and extremely good at recognising the tasting notes. At first glance, you might think that buying a gift for an aficionado is difficult, however, it doesn't have to be. There is no need to worry about finding something special, or new. An aficionado will appreciate the classics. A great choice would be something like the Romeo y Julieta Wide Churchills or the Montecristo No. 4. Even if they've tried it many times before, how could you say no to the classics?
